Kripalu Yoga Practice
When you are looking for a beautiful practice that is accessible to everyone and every-body, consider Kripalu Yoga. These classes are taught by teachers who have been certified and trained in this tradition.
All of our teachers are influenced and inspired by many teachers and styles of yoga as well, and maintain their continuing education in yoga asana (the physical practice) philosophy, and the history of yoga, we call these the "deeper practices" of yoga.
Beginners always welcome...this is where you start!
Also for the seasoned practitioner who wants a softer practice A very nurturing and relaxing practice of accessible postures and guided meditation in motion. This class is appropriate for everyone, especially new students, and always for those who want to carve out time in their lives to simply slow down and take some rest.
Kripalu All Levels
An instructive sequence of warmups, combined with a variety of guided postures, breathing and relaxation techniques. Appropriate for all students, and beginners are always welcome, you will be led and guided throughout!
A strengthening practice which includes longer holding times, more inter-connective flow between postures and an emphasis on internal awareness. New students who feel fit and strong are welcome to try moderate yoga any time, but remember that there may be less detailed instruction in these classes.
Gentle/Beginner, All Levels or Moderate Classes that do not specify "Kripalu" are classes taught by experienced certified teachers who are not specifically taught in the Kripalu tradition. These teachers are steeped in the essence of the the teachings of Kripalu Yoga, and the Heart of Heartsong, and their style is very much the same. We call these classes "Kripalu Inspired."
Ashtanga Yoga & all our Flow Classes
Ashtanga Yoga is a hot, vigorous, flowing "vinyasa" practice. While not a more advanced style of yoga, (beginners are always welcome) it often draws those looking for a more physically challenging pace. Ashtanga Yoga connects movement with breath in a dynamic series of postures done with calm focused attention, for strength, flexibility and a quiet mind. ("Vinyasa" means "breathing movement system") Be prepared to sweat a lot as you move through Ashtanga's meditation in motion, as you engage core muscles, work with a balanced steady breath, and enjoy the "bamboo room" heated to about 85 degrees. All of our "Flow" style classes are based on or inspired by Ashtanga Yoga.
Ashtanga Primary Series Classes:
Ashtanga Level 1 We teach a 75 minute, mindfully modified version of the full Primary Series, with plenty of details. Not just for new students of Ashtanga, this class has a beautiful blend of both new and seasoned practitioners, learning and growing together. (85 degrees)
Ashtanga Level 1 - 2 is the traditional full Primary Series, and is 90 minutes long. If you have done yoga before, you will be challenged but comfortable here, as you learn to navigate the sequence and flowing movement and connections that are unique to Ashtanga. Please know that we always welcome new students to this class, although, if you have never done yoga before, it's best to start in our Level 1 classes, or take a 6 week beginner course if you are able. (85 degrees)
......Speaking of All Levels...
Ashtanga All Levels classes are taught on the weekends, and encourage yoga students from every level of practice, new to more experienced, to practice together, and enjoy the flow, the pace and the heat, with plenty of details and many options along the way. Saturday am is a 75 minute class, Sunday am is a 90 minute class. All are welcome to attend. (85 degrees)
Ashtanga 2nd Series Level 1 Introduces ongoing Ashtanga students to the "Intermediate Series" sometimes called 2nd Series of Ashtanga Yoga. This modified/shortened form of 2nd Series starts with the standing poses of primary series, and then adds back bending and twists in an intelligent sequential way. If you are not sure if you "belong" in this class, please ask! (85 degrees)
Hot Flow classes are hot, flowing, and vigorous classes, inspired by Ashtanga Yoga, but with a more eclectic flow. All levels are welcome. The poses are not complicated, but they require focus and attention and a willingness to breathe, move, and flow uninterruptedly for 75 minutes! Of course you will always be offered time to rest if you want it! (80 degrees)
TGIFriday Flow and Slow Flow classes are based on the Ashtanga sequence, and also eclectic, creative 1 hour flow classes done in a moderately heated room and welcoming all levels.
Morning Yoga Flow on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 7 to 8 am, a special dynamic morning routine designed to jump start your day, wake up your body and get your energy flowing! The room is warm, not hot, (about 75 degrees) and the sequence is based onn Boomer Yoga, a balanced blend to wake up the body and move in all directions! All levels welcome to attend, doors open each day at 6:45 am. Come in ready to roll right at 7, we will be done promptly at 8.

We call this class chill out, stretchy, yummy, happy, peaceful, light and bright. But to be honest, sometimes these longer holding can be very challenging, if not physically, then mentally as we learn to slow down!
Yin Yoga uses longer passively held postures to work the deep connective tissues of the body; the tendons, the ligaments and cartilage; areas that do not stretch like muscle; areas that are difficult to reach and open. These previously inaccessible areas are opened allowing prana or chi (life force) to flow freely resulting in a more supple and flexible body. Yin yoga encourages you to slow down, to pay attention and deepen the awareness between mind and body. It is truly a wonderful compliment all practices and styles of yoga, particularly the "yang" or more vigorous practices.
Taught by Michele Scheuer, who completed her 200 hour certification at Samadhi Yoga Studio in Manchester, CT in 2008, and specializes in offering the Yin Yoga practice. We are honored to have her join our team of passionate teachers.
